FULL INFORMATION ABOUT COFFEE

AN EXQUISITE INTERPRETATION OF THE CLASSIC BURUNDIAN COFFEE PROFILE

Most of the Burundian coffees in our assortment come from the Kayanza region. This province holds the finest coffee reputation in the country. Farms are spread across highlands with fertile volcanic soils and a wonderfully cool terroir.

Combined with these optimal growing conditions, the skilled and dedicated managers of the washing stations in Kayanza ensure an incredibly high-quality product. They implement ecological yet cost-effective production methods, train farmers, and provide them with the necessary resources. They also support producers in identifying the best cultivation practices for their specific conditions.

Most of the coffee trees in Burundi are Red Bourbon, grown on small farms. On average, a farmer in the country owns around 250 coffee trees, producing roughly 1.5 kilograms of cherries per harvest. This means a single farmer yields about one bag of carefully handpicked green coffee. Immediately after harvesting, the cherries are washed and sent for depulping as part of a fully washed process.

The unique climate and soil, combined with the professionalism and vast experience of the station workers, result in exceptional coffees for us to enjoy. Expect a light, spring-like freshness of honey and flowers with a touch of lemon zest aroma in your cup.
