THE HIGHEST SLOPE IN THE REGION GAVE ITS NAME TO A UNIQUE PROCESSING STATION
Humure station is unusual for Rwanda, as it is entirely managed by women. It takes its name from the highest slope in the whole region, a well-known hub for both domestic and international tourism.
Last year, the Rwandan coffee company Baho Coffee, which owns Humure, invested in new concrete washing channels and a large warehouse to help the station produce even more exceptional coffee. Today we can enjoy the results of that work. The station also develops support programs for its farmers. The enterprise provides safe equipment and tools for workers and farmers, as well as long-term loans to cover medical treatment or school fees for their children. In addition, its long-term support includes distributing seedlings so farmers can renew the trees on their plantations, since coffee trees cannot yield large and tasty harvests indefinitely and must be replaced every few years.
Baho, founded in 2013 in Rwanda, understands the needs and challenges of smallholder farmers first-hand, as the entrepreneurs behind the company began their journey working at processing stations themselves. Today the company owns four stations, one in each province of the country. This is why they know just how multifaceted coffee can be, and how significant a role is played by differences in microclimate, soil, flora, and fauna.
Humure is truly professional coffee — crafted with a human touch and deep expertise. The managers say that as much as 70% of the work goes into sorting alone. And indeed, this lot looks simply outstanding. The washed process gently highlights the genetic potential of the coffee’s flavor.
