A FARMER WITH 50 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IS CALLED A WALKING ENCYCLOPEDIA
This lot of Costa Rican Yellow Catuai is our first encounter with farmer Roberto Mata and his coffee. The beans were harvested from his two farms – Las Nubes and La Pachuca – and represent a unique discovery for us.
With nearly fifty years of experience in coffee, our partners call Roberto a walking encyclopedia – he literally knows everything about coffee cultivation and processing. A great nature lover, he was one of the first farmers in Costa Rica to grow coffee consciously and responsibly in regard to the environment. Having established his own processing station only a few years ago – right next to his home – he processes coffee using an eco-friendly depulper. All of his processes are strictly controlled and highly efficient.
A conscious person, a responsible farmer, and an efficient manager, Roberto Mata grows and processes truly exceptional coffee. His entire work is focused on honey and natural processing methods. At his station, coffee is processed using nearly every possible method, and with a wide variety of cultivars, including extra-exotic ones such as Geisha.
This lot comes from a nearly classic natural process and a rather unusual, bright variety – Yellow Catuai. When we say this is our first encounter, we literally mean that you can expect a second! This coffee amazes us with its clarity, juiciness, vibrancy, and with the personalities of the people behind creating such a remarkable product.
